One last thing before we go. . .

Dad, daughter, and Mom portrait on rock wall with green trees in backgroundNow, these are some people I’m going to miss. They have decided to accept an opportunity to live in Brazil for Dad’s work, and they’ll be leaving in a few weeks.  This family befriended me five years ago when I first moved to New England. Their daughter was the same age as my oldest and happened into the same preschool class. So we’ve hung out at countless birthday parties and playdates.Dad, Mom and daughter standing portrait all holding hands

As our daughters went off to school, we slowly climbed back into the workforce. And this Momma did it with gusto! So much so, that when we were ready to buy our home, she found it and sold it to us within a month.Mom and daughter pick pink hydrangea flowers

Dad is the ever-supportive husband and father, who works in and out-of-town a lot but made time to feed his passion for cooking by going to culinary school in his spare time. And boy did we all benefit from that little labor of love!Daddy and daughter dancing in summer garden

Their sweet little girl is almost 9 years-old now and amazes me with her kindness and strength of character. From the age of 3 she was standing up for fairness and what was right and would tell the other children that she would not go along with their bad behavior. She’s been reading since she was 4 and has a very clever mind to go along with her beauty.Young Indian girl poses for serious summer portrait against brick wall

When we talked about doing a family portrait session, we wanted to make sure we captured a bit of New England as a remembrance for them. We chose to do our photography session at the Wells-Shipman-Ward house in Glastonbury. This gorgeous property dates back to the 18th Century and has so many picturesque spots that we could literally move just a few feet and have an entirely new scene to create in.Family of 3 posed in front of a weathered barn doorFamily of 3 seated in summer garden for portrait

The one thing we weren’t prepared for were the mosquitoes! We did have the foresight to use bug spray, but after literally bathing in it, all it did was keep them off temporarily. But that made for a very efficient and fast session (not to mention tons of gorgeous images!)Daddy and daughter bear hug outside in summer gardenMom and daughter portrait in summer garden

I’m so excited for my friends and the adventure that they are about to take. I’ll definitely miss them, but I am so happy that we were able to get together and have this amazingly fun and playful session. We definitely created a ton of memories for them to hang on their walls and remember their years in Glastonbury.Young Indian girl blows dandelion seeds for wishesOne of the most familiar reasons that families don’t have their portraits taken is that they just don’t have the time. Well, we began this session at their home, drove to a second location and were completely done within 1 hour! By adding a little “play” to the session, things are more fun, go faster and result in exactly the happy photographs that you crave of your family.
