Taming Butterflies | Children Photographer Glastonbury, Connecticut

 

A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of little Cherub playing in the grass with a butterfly perched on her hand. It was a truly golden shot that brought back memories of youthful evenings spent chasing fireflies and mornings watching bunnies graze on dew covered grass. When we connect with nature, there is just something so extraordinary and innocent that moves within us.

Alas, most of those moments live only within our minds and are very rarely captured in photographs. But we can take matters into our own hands (or computers). So this is where I tell you that my perfect picture wasn’t entirely organic, but was indeed a crafted piece of art. Gasp! Well, really? If I was that fortunate to capture a one in a bazillion moment like that, I’d be at the casino right now.  But who cares? The photograph is still beautiful and will make people smile every time they see it.

So, how’d I do it? Photoshop! I simply took my original photo where little Cherub was looking and doing exactly what I needed her to do to make the photo believable and placed a butterfly right on top of it. Of course I had to finesse the butterfly a bit using scale, blur and a bit of noise (all geeky, software speak), but in the end it is totally believable. I could print that image poster-size and it would look just as amazing.
