Flags and Footballs: Celebrating a Jamaican Boy in Newborn Photographs ~ Stephen
To me, photography has always been about so much more than creating pretty pictures that are pleasing to the eye. It’s about telling a story and capturing a sense of who a family is with only a still image. When little Stephen’s family came to me to tell their story, I couldn’t wait to dive in to highlight this Jamaican boy in newborn photographs.
The family moved to the US from Jamaica shortly before baby Stephen was born, so they were in the middle of a lot of major life changes when I met them! Still, they were such gracious people and a pleasure to work with.
Stephen’s family wants their baby boy to grow up with a strong sense of his Jamaican heritage, so we made sure to pay homage to their homeland with a portrait of Stephen at the center of the Jamaican flag. This little guy is also lucky enough to join a family that loves sports, and he’s sure to follow in those footsteps, so I made sure to incorporate a soccer ball and football into his newborn photos.
Baby Stephen is also fortunate to have an incredible big sister who loves helping her parents care for her baby brother. Mom and Dad wanted to be sure to memorialize the wonderful bond that the siblings share, and I have to say that I love their portraits together.
Throughout the session, Stephen was such a dream to photograph…largely because he was dreaming for most of the time! I’m in love with the way he purses his little lips as he sleeps, and I can’t get over the portrait of him sleeping so deeply that his mouth is falling open. It’s cozy enough to make anyone jealous of that amazing nap he’s taking.
If you’re about to start a new chapter of your family’s story by welcoming a new child to your home, I’m here to help you celebrate this moment. Contact my newborn photography studio today to schedule your session.
