Luke ~ One-Year Photos of a Playdate in the Park

Little Luke is about to turn one year old, and this kid is on the move! He’s growing and learning new skills every day, so Mom called me to schedule a photo session for his first birthday. This is such a fun stage in his life for them to capture, and it’s an exciting stage for the entire family too because they’ll be welcoming a baby girl this year.

Since Luke is so active and energetic, we decided that the perfect way to capture his joy would be to photograph a family playdate. So, we set up a time for a beautiful summer morning and headed to a local park to take advantage of the scenery. Family photographers in CT like me are truly fortunate that we have such a stunning landscape that has a different beauty at every season of the year, so outdoor photos are a popular choice.

It turned out to be the right decision because little Luke was right at home. He had a great time playing and interacting with his surroundings. One of my favorite photos shows Luke grabbing a bright yellow flower with a smile of pure, honest delight. The family opted for light blues for their wardrobe, and it was a fantastic complement to the greenery around them and the light dandelion puffs as well.

Of course, we had to include a special tradition one-year-olds love: a cake smash. Luke had a great time tearing into that cake. At one point, and crew of about 60 runners came through the park, with all of them wishing Luke a happy birthday. He was in awe, and while it was a bit distracting at first, Luke managed to get back to enjoying his cake smash.
