Why Do Photographer’s Pictures Look So Good? | Glastonbury, Connecticut Family Photographer
“Wow! Your camera takes good pictures.” I’m sure you’ve heard this exact comment before. If you have your camera in auto mode (like I did for YEARS) you probably think, “why yes, yes it does!” But when you see an image that a photographer made, it just looks better and you don’t know why. I can promise you that it isn’t because they have that much better of a camera than you do. We all have fancy DSLR’s that can rapidly fire off several frames per second so that we don’t miss our little superhero swing the bat. So what is the difference?
Two things: Blurring out the background and Editing. So blurring out your background isn’t hard, but it is a bit technical. If you want to learn how, I loved reading the book Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera by Bryan Peterson. It is laid out in everyday language and is easy to follow. The editing side of things is where the magic happens. As you can see below in the before and after images that I’ve posted, I’m serious here! It is not uncommon for me to spend up to ten hours editing the images from a photography session so that each image really shines. It’s a lot of time and effort, but it is SO worth it. Anyone would be happy having taken the first image, but the second one just makes you stop and say wow! If you want to see what kind of “Wow!” I can do for images of your family, feel free to contact me and we can talk about it.
