A Family of Four Become Five: Portraits of a Growing Family ~ Tanner

For many of the families I photograph, I’m lucky enough to be the go-to photographer that they come back to see every time they want to update their portraits, which means that I get to watch them grow and share in their joy. That’s the case for this sweet family that I’ve worked with since they welcomed their first child, Brooks, several years ago. When they called me to tell me that they wanted one-year portraits for their son Tanner and they wanted to incorporate a special photo for their next little one on the way, I couldn’t wait!

In 1-year-old and family photography, it’s sometimes difficult to get a great picture of the whole family because there are so many little ones to please, but this family made it easy. Both Brooks and Tanner are such easygoing little guys with cheerful spirits, so it didn’t take much coaxing to get them to flash their pearly whites. I even managed to capture a picture of Brooks giving Tanner an education in Big Brother University, and it’s clear that these two have an amazing bond already.

Mom and Dad are thrilled to be welcoming their first baby girl this spring, and I relished the opportunity to take their announcement picture. With Brooks already an expert in being a big brother, I can tell that Tanner will also be learning from the best and stepping into this role easily when his baby sister comes along. I can’t wait to reconnect with this beautiful family after they have become a family of five.
