Lucy ~ Valentine’s Day Baby Milestone Session

It was such a pleasure to work with this kind family. They drove an hour to do Valentine’s Day baby milestone session with their daughter Lucy. I figured that since they had invested so much time preparing and traveling for this shoot, we could kind of make it a 3-in-1 session: Christmas photos, Valentine’s Day pictures, and family portraits! We were originally planning on doing Lucy’s 7-month portraits and holiday pictures, but when I saw her pretty sweater with a big red heart, I thought these could easily work as Valentine’s pictures as well. The dark gray background really made her red bow and smiling face pop.

A Happy Baby Girl

This baby has the most expressive eyes, and I had fun capturing the many faces of Lucy. She did so well during the shoot (I know how hard it is for little explorers to sit still). But she put so much energy into shining that big personality that she fell right to sleep the moment I sat down with her parents to review images at the end.

The middle of the first year is a great milestone for catching babies’ budding personalities. I clicked away as she explored and examined the props around the backdrop. She giggled and waved her hands happily in the air. She especially liked the chocolate chip cookie and playing with the soft stuffed animals. What could beat a dessert-flavored prop? Only the warmth of Mom and Dad’s arms. It’s easy to see that this little one adores her parents. I had never seen her grin so big until the moment that her parents swooped her up into the air and enveloped her into a big bear hug—her favorite place in the whole world. And of course, Mom and Dad love that girl more than she will ever know.

I can’t get enough of moments like these. Shoots that naturally display the incredible bonds between parents and their children are what fuel my passion for photography. I am grateful that this family made a special trip in—what a wonderful session!
