Makayla ~ Floral Newborn Session

Just look at this wide-eyed beauty! She’s too cute for words. But I’m going to try to describe this gorgeous floral newborn session 🙂

Mom called me right after this little bundle of joy was born, not realizing it’s easier to plan before they arrive, so we rushed to get them into the studio. Typically, we do newborn sessions around two weeks, but Makayla came in at six. I do older newborns fairly often, and they do tend to stay awake for more of the shoot than teeny tiny ones. Sometimes the older babies will resist posing some, but Makayla went right along with the shoot, giving us plenty of sweet faces and sparkling eyes before succumbing to sleep.

A Stunning Theme for a Stunning Baby Girl

Mom wanted to do a floral theme for her daughter’s photos, and Makayla’s soft skin and dark hair stood out beautifully against the bed of pink, purple, and ivory flowers. She looked like a little baby doll lying there with her tiny fingers against her face.

I must admit, though, one of my favorite photos is the Christmas cookie scene! This holiday baby looked too cute snoozing away with a chocolate chip cookie in her hand and a glass of milk by her side. I could never throw away a holiday card with a photo like this featured on the front!

I also love the photos of Mom with her baby snuggled against her cheek. These days go so very fast, and memories can fade quickly, especially with the lack of sleep. I have a feeling that Makayla’s parents will pull this photo out often over the years to remember what it was like to be able to fit their daughter in the palms of their hands and feel the soft baby skin. That’s one of the greatest pleasures of being a photographer: I get to help families preserve those magical moments.
