I always love photographing “belly to baby” – capturing maternity photos as well as newborn photos for the same family. It’s so much fun to see the excitement and anticipation in expectant parents as they prepare for the birth of their new bundle of joy, and then watch that excitement come full circle as they’re getting to know their little baby.

I was able to enjoy that unique experience for baby Neil and his adoring parents through their maternity and newborn photography sessions. I first met the couple at their maternity photoshoot, and for this mom-to-be, the pregnancy glow was no exaggeration! Mom and Dad were both overflowing with love for baby Neil before he was even born.

Mom’s maternity photos turned out to be positively stunning. We opted for mostly classic indoor maternity photos, and her dramatic portrait in that rich green dress is such a head-turner!

When baby Neil made his appearance into the world, I was thrilled to see his parents again and, of course, to meet this little guy. Neil is just as sweet as they come. He slept soundly for much of his session, and when he was awake, he was peaceful, watched us curiously, and flashed us those beautiful eyes.

We used a green color palette for Neil’s portraits with his loving new parents so they would pair well with Mom’s maternity photos. We also played with a classic baby boy blue palette for many of Neil’s solo newborn portraits, and the picture of him cuddling a tiny teddy bear is absolutely precious. For a slightly more unique and personalized composite portrait, we photographed Neil below the phases of the moon.
