Oliver ~ Newborn Baby Bound for the Navy

This lovely family drove over an hour so I could work with them and capture their first baby’s newborn photos. I felt honored to do this for them, and I had so much fun incorporating their family’s story into this session. Oliver’s brilliant mama is a teacher, and his brave dad is a Navy submariner – they’re actually transferring down to Virginia pretty soon! This little boy is going to grow up hearing some incredible stories, and he has two wonderful role models leading the way for him. 

Baby Oliver was perfect and calm the entire session. For his newborn shoot, they wanted to incorporate a good balance of simple, classic newborn photographs, family portraits, and some creative newborn composites as well. I was more than happy to oblige.

To let him settle into the studio, we did the family portraits first. Mom and Dad have such sweet chemistry together, and they relaxed into these beautiful poses so naturally. Of course, baby Oliver was content to snuggle and snooze in their arms.

When we felt like he was ready to move on, I created photographs using a colorful blue and green mandala blanket that the parents just loved. I used this as an opportunity to get some sweet curled-up poses and snuggly shots. Then, we moved on to a simple navy blanket where I got those priceless detailed shots showing off his tiny newborn features. He did great!

Next, we moved on to the themed shots. I love the dreamy set with Oliver sleeping soundly over peaceful waters and a starry sky suspended overhead. I don’t know if he’ll be a Navy man like his dad, but Oliver sure looked cute resting inside the lifebuoy that said, “Welcome Aboard!” 

And welcome aboard, indeed, sweet Oliver. It was so nice to meet you, baby boy. I hope your first year is filled with wonder!
