Newborn photos with older baby

Newborn photography sessions are very different from all other sessions. In general, as a photographer you have to be even more attentive to your family’s needs. Getting the right shots and poses is important, but making sure Mom and baby are happy and comfortable take top priority at all times. Usually, that means going just a little bit slower and staying flexible. But those are some of the things I love most about being a newborn photographer. I really get to know my clients – which is even more fun as the babies get older and we document their different development stages. It’s such an honor and a pleasure to be able to build deeper relationships like these.

Gaia was a month old when she came to see me, so she was little more alert than most newborns. Since she was awake and in a new place, she did needs to take a break and eat several times, but Mom was always ready to keep her tummy happy. Mom and I had the chance to have several long talks during Gaia’s feedings, and I really got to know her as a strong and capable woman who is going to be an amazing role model for her kids.

Gaia’s big brother Hendrick was just a couple months shy of two years old, so he wasn’t interested in getting any solo photos with his sister. But we did get some great family photos with everyone. Gaia was so calm throughout her session (especially after the feedings – she even fell asleep through some of it). We had a heck of a time keeping her little tongue in her mouth, which mom said Hendrick did as well when he was a newborn. But that’s what makes them unique. Too cute!! Mom loved my composites so much she sent me a list of her favorites so I could create beautiful artwork for their family and home. Congratulations to this beautiful family on their sweet baby girl!
