Preemie Twin Girls Newborn Session

Just a few days after I did Mom’s maternity session, her sweet precious twin daughters Johanna (pronounced Joe-Hannah) and  Emilia (pronounced E-mee-lee-ah) came onto the scene at just 31 weeks. They spent the next few months in the hospital, and then they came to see me right around their original due date. 

So sweet and tiny, they were so much fun to photograph. The biggest challenge with these identical twins was keeping them straight! We kept Emilia in purple and Johannah in teal for most of the session as to not become confused. My assistant Nicole always helps me with twins, so we both had our arms full the entire session!

Ballet was very important to Mom, so we incorporated her first pair of toe shoes in one of the photographs. The toes shoes even resemble the shape of a heart! We then had each of the girls in tutus in another shot. The purple and teal were the perfect colors for these two precious girls. Their dainty feminine floral headbands and soft linen swaddles were absolutely adorable. 

Mom wanted mostly simple images of her girls, but I couldn’t resist creating one special image with them in the floral that spelled out LOVE. It is absolutely feminine and beautiful and just what I had pictured in my mind! They have brought everything that love brings to a family in the short time that they have been earthside, so I knew this shot was perfect for them. 

I can’t get over the picture of Johanna and Emilia facing each other as they sleep. It makes me think of all the times they’ll inevitably fall asleep like that as they stay up late talking about what only sisters can talk about.
