When it comes to timing, newborn photos can be tricky. We want to capture that precious yet fleeting stage when the baby is discovering their brand new world, but as every parent knows, babies outgrow that newborn period in a hurry. Amadi’s mom knew that too, so she called me as soon as her beautiful baby boy was born to see if I could squeeze her in. Thankfully, I had an opening, and I’m not sure who was more excited about it: Amadi’s family or me!

Teddy Bear Newborn Photos

This family was an absolute delight to work with. Not only were they all so positive and helpful, but they knew exactly what they wanted. Mom especially wanted a photo of her baby in what we call the “froggy pose” – that adorable pose in which the baby is leaning forward with their head in their hands. Clearly, little Amadi knew how important this picture was for his loving mom, because he was incredibly cooperative and he got into the pose in a heartbeat. Mom also loved the photos of her baby boy in the teddy bear onesie, so she chose these two digital backgrounds to complement his nursery.

I can’t forget about Amadi’s proud big sister Nkem, of course! This little beauty is a natural model if I’ve ever seen one. She took direction with ease and without question, she’s the most mature six-year-old I’ve ever worked with.

Traditional Attire Newborn Portraits

One of my favorite parts of this shoot, though, was the family’s love of Amadi’s dad’s culture and their choice to integrate it into the photos. Dad is from a country in Africa and the family donned his traditional attire for one of their pictures. Not only is this a stunning peek into the family’s promise to celebrate their heritage, but those gorgeous colors absolutely pop on that white background. Stunning!
