Orson ~ Whimsical Fantasy Newborn Session

I absolutely LOVE this family! They are just the kindest of people! You know those people that make you feel better just by being around them — just good people? They’re those people! I met them when I photographed Orson’s big sister Lyra several years ago as a newborn. When Baby Orson was on his way, we did a maternity shoot. During Mom’s maternity session, we planned his newborn session as well. Time flew by, and here we are, now presenting: Baby Orson in his whimsical newborn session!  

Mom and Dad love to play games and enjoy stories about fantastic things like superheroes and magical wizards. So we incorporated their passions into artwork, starring their baby. The outdoor photograph with Baby Orson wrapped up in a forest green swaddle surrounded by plush foliage is about the Legends of Zelda. I love his little crocheted hat and bloomers. The leaves are just to commemorate the changing of the season to fall. The rich hues of orange, red, and green perfectly capture the beauty of the changing colors of autumn — everything about this shoot was done with intention.

Dad loves Spiderman, so we had to do the iconic upside-down photograph. His little Spiderman sack and head wrap are absolutely adorable. The space photograph pays homage to his name; both children are actually named after constellations. Mom and Dad both love Harry Potter as well. They even have their own wands! We used one of them and their beloved books as well to create the perfect theme setup. Judging by the scarlet and gold scarves that Baby Orson is laying on, I would guess that they have been sorted into Gryffindor. 

Magical Family Portraits

After the photos of Baby Orson in all his fantastical gear, we took some classic portrait photographs of the family. Both Mom and Dad wore simple gray shirts while Baby Orson and Big Sister Lyra wore navy blue. He looks so cute and tiny wrapped up in his swaddle in Mom and Dad’s hands. I just love the picture of brother and sister. The picture of them with her arm around his shoulders shows that she’s already started taking on the role of Big Sister.
