Every parent and family that I work with for maternity photos, newborn photos and other milestone photos has their own vision for their finished portraits. Most of my clients like the fairly traditional imagery for their babies’ first photos, like delicate, muted colors and quaint backgrounds. But every so often, I have a client who wants to get creative and make their photos particularly unique, and these sessions are a blast!

This sweet family definitely wanted vibrant maternity and newborn photos. Mom and Dad couldn’t wait to welcome their baby girl and they wanted to cherish all the memories along the way, so they opted for a maternity photo session as well as a newborn photo session. They love rich, colorful, creative photos, so I took the opportunity to get playful and I put my creativity to work to make vibrant maternity and newborn photos.

Vibrant Maternity Portraits

The poses for Mom’s vibrant maternity portraits were fairly traditional, but we spiced it up with bold colors and outfits to truly fit her personality. She looked gorgeous in both the white and the pink maternity gowns, and I just can’t get enough of that beautiful fur jacket.

When their baby girl Charmaine arrived, Mom and Dad pulled out all the stops for her newborn photo session. Charmaine is deliciously adorable, so it was only fitting that we brought in plenty of colors that were edible, and I have to admit that I can’t take my eyes off her portraits surrounded by donuts, cupcakes, and farm-fresh foods. We made sure to capture her softer, feminine side too with plenty of light and lacy sets.

Lively Newborn Photos

Little Charmaine was a bit older for her newborn photos than most babies I work with, so she was alert and bright-eyed for most of her portraits. When Mom and Dad were holding her for her family photos, though, she clearly felt calm and safe because she managed to give us some sleepy portraits too.
