Winter Maternity Photos: No Snow but a Wonderland Nonetheless
Pregnancy is such an incredible time in any mother’s life, and I have a special place in my heart for every maternity photography session I’ve done. There’s something particularly meaningful, though, in maternity photos for a first-time mom-to-be. In the decades to come, as she watches her child grow, she can look back on this unique time as the very start of her journey into motherhood.
When this couple reached out to me, it was immediately obvious how thrilled they were to become parents. Mom wanted to make the most of every moment of her pregnancy because while it sometimes feels long at the time, in the years ahead, it will feel like it flew by!
This momma-to-be loves the outdoor scenery, so even though it was nearing the end of winter and she knew it would be freezing outside, and the results were absolutely worth it. We went to an area that has been a longtime favorite of mine for outdoor photos, and it did not disappoint.
The background was full of lush evergreens and amazingly, the grass was still green. While the snow that had fallen a week ago had already melted when this momma’s photo session arrived, so our winter maternity photos had no snow, the scenery still paints the picture of a cozy winter with spring and new birth on the horizon.
While these soon-to-be parents’ smiles of pure excitement are the clear stars of their maternity portraits, I also can’t take my eyes off that dramatic red maternity dress. It complements mom-to-be so well, and it’s a stunningly bold focal point against the faded background of winter trees.
