Mom, Dad and newborn son on black backgroundThese new parents are real troopers. When I arrived at their home to do their newborn photography session, Mom immediately warned me that their little fellow had had a very rough night. He had cried for most of the past 12 hours. newborn screaming on changing table while parents take care of himNow I’m sure the night was rough for him, but anyone who has ever gone without sleep to care for a child knows that the real strain was on the parents. Still, they were so happy to be getting his posed newborn photos done that they had smiles on their faces.

Since their little one was a bit out of sorts, we played it safe when going through his photography session. We stuck mostly to getting posed images so that he could rest. newborn boy wrapped in knit lying on his back on blue blanketBut Mom told me that they really favored the adorable posed images, so it all worked out fine. Like so many newborns, their little fellow had his favorite positions and those poses that he just would not go into. He preferred the comfort of being wrapped, so we worked to keep him comfortable and happy.Dad craddling newborn son in his hands in airMom and Dad worked just as hard as I did, doubling up on his feedings and soothing him back to sleep.

We were able to create our version of a ring image that Mom had fallen in love with on Pinterest.mom and dad's wedding rings resting on newborn baby's feet

I also wanted to really capture just how small their little fellow was, especially compared to his extremely tall Daddy. This image contrasting the size of Daddy’s thumb to his son’s foot shows that perfectly.Dad's thumb against newborn baby foot

We were able to really capture all of the love and care that both of these new parents have for their newborn son. In the end, that really is my ultimate goal. Creating images that make Mom remember the sweetness of her children at that age, whether it’s through posed newborn photos or the more candid lifestyle type of newborn photos. black and white image of mom holding newborn son in window lightAt the end of the three-hour session, we were all exhausted. But when you get an image like this one, you know it was all worth it. newborn boy wrapped in fall colored knit scarfThere truly is no sweeter love than the one you have for your newborn baby.
