Michael ~ Behind the Scenes of a Family Photoshoot

Sometimes, even the best intentions don’t go as planned, which is especially true when it comes to little ones. For this shoot, Mom and Dad planned a fall photo session with me to capture Michael at 6 months of age. They had the outfits picked out, we settled on a location, we went over their vision—everything was going smoothly.

When it was time for the photoshoot, baby Michael was teething and just wanted to eat and be held (understandably…poor little guy). I’m sure he was confused why everyone wanted him to smile when he just felt like crying. Their daughter, Kate, and Dad showed up just a little late because (in true toddler fashion) she did NOT like the outfit Mom had picked out. She made sure to show her displeasure every chance she got. Mom and Dad were struggling, and I know that most kids tend to behave better for others than for their parents.

Finding the Beauty in the Mess

So, I tried my magic with them. Sure enough, because I am not Mom or Dad, Kate was great for me! I know that in the moment, it may have seemed like the session went poorly (at the end of the session, Mom even told me hopelessly, “Well, good luck…” due to the cranky kiddos), but just look how they turned out!! You would never know that the day did not go quite as planned. Everyone looks beautiful and mostly happy. It’s all about the small, sweet moments in between the chaos. In all honesty, it’s a great depiction of life in general. We have to take the good times while we have them, and things are often more beautiful than we know. We just have to step behind the lens to gain perspective.

I truly enjoyed my time with this dear family! I promise this is more common than you know. 😉 Your family is absolutely gorgeous.
